The current edition that is still commonly used has “an hungred” for “hungry” in nine verses.įurthermore, the current edition of the KJV contains several words that have changed in meaning over time. He runneth upon him, even on his neck, upon the thick bosses of his bucklers: Because he covereth his face with his fatness, and maketh collops of fat on his flanks” (Job 15:26-27 KJV).Įarlier editions of the KJV also used outdated spelling which can be confusing for some readers (e.g., “sunne” for “sun”). For instance, how many people readily understand “Charity vaunteth not itself” (1 Cor. And it uses archaic expressions and phrases that are unfamiliar to modern readers. The KJV uses many archaic words no longer in use: words such as jangling, subtil, privily, sunder, and holpen, etc. However, one of the biggest shortcomings for most people is its dated language. The KJV is an excellent English Bible and if you can easily understand it there is no real reason to change to another translation. The stance of these Christians has been referred to as King-James-Onlyism. Some Christians and churches are so enamoured with the KJV that they refuse to use, or give credit to, any other translation. Some Christians today maintain that the KJV is the superior English translation. The Bible was beautifully written by some of the best scholars of the day and its reputation as fine literature is deserved. The team of dozens of Catholic scholars undertook the project to make the translation even more literal and aligned to the original underlying text, while still rendering the Scripture in smooth contemporary English. The King James Version of the Bible is a great translation and has helped countless thousands of people to find and know God, to receive his gift of salvation, and to effectively serve him and his people. The NABRE, released in 2011, is the result of a thorough revision of the Old Testament. (From an address to the United Bible Societies, November 26, 2001.) Lastly, to crown the work with success, there must be an adequate mastery of the contents and meaning of what one is translating.” Next, there must be a good familiarity with the language and cultural context at the point where the work will arrive. First, there must be a deep knowledge of the language and the cultural world at the point of origin. This can be done all the more easily and fruitfully if to the knowledge of languages be joined a real skill in literary criticism of the same text.”Īlmost 60 years later, Pope John Paul II added, “A good translation is based on three pillars that must contemporaneously support the entire work. He wrote: “We ought to explain the original text which was written by the inspired author himself and has more authority and greater weight than any, even the very best, translation whether ancient or modern. The move toward using the original biblical languages as the source for a modern language Catholic Bible was driven by the encyclical Divino afflante spiritu issued by His Holiness Pope Pius XII in 1943. The Jerusalem Bible holds that esteem in worldwide outside the US and Canada. The NAB is the only translation approved for Mass in the United States and Philippines. The first translation to take a similar approach was the Jerusalem Bible, published in 1966. It is also the second Catholic-originated English translation to use the original biblical languages-Hebrew, Aramaic, and Greek-as a base text instead of the Latin Vulgate. The New American Bible of 1970 was the first American lexicon-oriented Catholic Bible. What's clear is that the PC version of Rogue offers up the most technically advanced Assassin's Creed experience out of the bunch. However, of the existing versions, the Xbox 360 release falls a little short, with some bizarre visual downgrades that lead to poorer image quality, without necessarily bringing about a consistent increase in performance. Well, to cut to the chase, there's good news and there's bad news here: PC owners get to enjoy all of the engine enhancements made for the PC/Xbox One and PS4 versions of Black Flag - features that simply aren't present on the last-gen releases. Rogue was released late last year on Xbox 360 and PS3, but has only just made its way onto PC - as good an opportunity as ever to revisit a game we didn't have the resources to cover in the deluge of Q4 2014 releases, and to check out the last-gen engine's twilight outing on PC. Perhaps more importantly, it doesn't suffer from as many bugs - even if it still features a few random glitches of its own, such as enemy characters disappearing in battle. Built using the same technology behind Assassin's Creed 4: Black Flag, Rogue may not deliver the same graphical punch as the next-gen Unity, but some might say that it offers a more liberating gameplay experience when freed from the shackles of on-land exploration. Designed with last-gen consoles in mind, Assassin's Creed Rogue slipped under the radar somewhat owing to the controversy surrounding its Unity stable-mate's bugs, glitches and questionable performance. Pick a team, set it up and start climbing up the hierarchy of football clubs. Instead turn on the PSP and start the Season Mode. No, don't put your running shoes, you won't ever be bought by Chelsea. Pick a team, a stadium, an opponent and go!You can play a whole Premier League season. Don't worry about the Juggling and Challenge mode, there's also a play now mode, for the rushed players. They can be used in the FIFA store to unlock stadiums, kits or new songs. Points are basically what you get with each win, draw or achievement. Maybe you're the kind of guy that needs the adrenaline of being 2 goals down in the last ten minutes. After finishing both the Rout and the Comeback, you'll unlock the custom challenge where the event will be set according to your preferences. You must first win each of them to unlock the next and sweat for the final challenge. One thing that bothered me was that you can't navigate between challenges and play right away the one you like. Now that's a titanic amount of goals (or maybe a fixed match). One of them meant scoring 6 goals while being three down against Hertha Berlin. There's also the Rout, another type of challenge that implies following the original story and achieving the scoreline given in the beginning of the match. The comeback notion can refer to recovering from a one-goal deficit and winning, or trying to get a tie, or scoring in the last ten minutes of a game that was nil to nil for 80 minutes. Comeback is a very cool concept that allows you to relive the historic matches that great teams had in the last two years. You can choose between three challenge modes: the comeback, the rout and the custom challenge. This can be applied on football as well and EA knows best. It had nothing to do with football, it was all about reliving the great boxing finals and changing history. The Challenge mode reminded me of a game I had played a week earlier. Touch it with the tip of your shoe, lift it, hit it slowly with your head, but never let it fall down. You're one on one with the ball and you must keep it in the air as long as possible. Juggling means choosing one of the great and famous players that we all know from deodorant commercials and using them to play this fun minigame. At first I was surprised to see the indication that showed me a picture of the PSP that must be held vertically in order to play this game. The first thing that I noticed in the menu was the Juggling option. This chapter of the review won't be some chronological list of things to do in FIFA 06. We're living and playing the "good present days". Football has changed and there's no need to remember "the good old days". The old stars have started to retire and the new ambitious kids started showing off and now we see more stunts than ever on the battlefield we like to call stadium. In the last two years there's been a refreshing new series of young players, talents to be uncovered. Why do men or women go nuts all of a sudden? Why do they trash their TV sets? Why are some apparently normal men considered gods? Why do millions of people pay to watch twenty two players running around? Why do you cry in front of the TV and it's not the ending of a movie? Why do you wave a huge flag outside your window? I have one word for you: FOOTBALL. |
